Jean Templeton, Ph.D., is a licensed practicing psychologist who specializes in treating survivors of childhood trauma and sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Dr. Templeton has also worked as an educator and curriculum designer, training other helping professionals in therapy techniques and skills to use in treatment of trauma victims and consulting with state and local agencies to develop training programs and materials on a variety of topics. She completed an internship at the Masters and Johnson Sexual Trauma Hospital in 1995 and has taught and written nationally on the subject of sexual trauma. Among materials she has developed for clinical use on this topic are the illustrated book and videotape INCEST: THREE REAL STORIES and the Web site, all endorsed by the late William Masters.

Dr. Templeton employs an eclectic theoretical approach in her practice that includes psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and hypnotherapy techniques. She is also a DBT (Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy) therapist and is trained in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She works with a wide developmental age range, from adolescent to geriatric, and is experienced in the treatment of affective disorders, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder); stress-based issues related to adjustment to loss; bereavement, caregiver stress, and pain management; and women’s issues, including separation/divorce, eating disorders, and sexual abuse. Dr. Templeton is committed to a holistic, multidisciplinary, team-based approach to treatment and recovery, believing in the notion that "none of us is as smart as all of us."

Dr. Templeton received an M.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Association of Trauma Professionals, the Institute for Reality Therapy, and the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists. Dr. Templeton lives in Pittsboro, North Carolina, and practices in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, North Carolina.
